About

Ambitious is a Bio-Digital Material Lab seeking to investigate the intersection between:

Biology - Materiality - Digital Fabrication

Ambitious seeks to empower society with Bio-Digital means towards a New Material Age .

In a time of urgency, Ambitious seeks to drive a Material-based design agenda towards innovative systems of fabrication. With the use of advanced material strategies, Ambitious promotes a Bio-Digital methodology towards the design and fabrication of matter. Ambitious aims to explore the translation of biological processes into digital fabrication through the use of novel 3D printing techniques.

Meet the Team

Matthew Catania

Research Architect

Matthew Catania

Matthew is a Research Architect and the founder of Ambitious.

He is an architecture graduate from the University of Malta. After completing his Bachelor's degree, he moved into the field of research, where he focused upon an exploration in the design of material behaviours and as a result obtained a distinction in his Master's degree.

JAX

The Hothead

JAX Mural

JAX is the hothead and a robust character in the lab. He often spends his days jamming about and fusing his creations together. JAX utilises an FDM technology (Fusion Deposition Modelling) to produce his wonderful wild creations. In his downtime he enjoys taking long walks on the beach accompanied by a casual beverage.

Genevieve

The Organised Mess

Genny Mural

Genevieve is the more collected one out of the group. She has an industrious appetite for all things earthy and comes across as a bubbly type. Genevieve operates with a LDM technology (Liquid Deposition Modelling) to harness the use of fluids in an act of making. When she’s not busy making her beautiful creations, Genevieve enjoys blasting her classical music through the Lab.

Mia

The Resident Canine

Mia assumes the resident dog position and fills up the lab with her wonderful joy and characteristic mischief. You can often find her indulging into a cheeky snooze or causing havoc around the lab...but nonetheless we love her company.
